The Return of the Supra

Japanese car enthusiasts have long awaited the promised return of the legendary Toyota Supra. Since the first model in 1978, the Toyota Supra has been a staple in the car community and a pillar by which other sports cars are measured. Powerful inline-six engines and rear-wheel-drive drivetrains characterize this Japanese icon. Used in various types of racing, the car community has always praised the Supra for its capability, strength, and spirit. In 1998, Toyota decided to discontinue the nameplate in the U.S. market, leaving the car community anxious for its revival. Finally, after two decades—the Supra returns.
A Powerhouse Worthy of the Name
Seeking to uphold the character of previous generations, Toyota partnered with BMW to create the fifth generation Supra, using Toyota’s own take on BMW’s inline six-cylinder engine. This turbocharged powerhouse produces 335 horsepower and 365 pound-feet of torque. That power translates into a 4.1-second 0-60 mph time. An 8-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters helps get that power to the rear wheels.
Thanks to a perfect 50:50 weight distribution and lower center of gravity, the 2020 Toyota Supra is already poised to handle like a precision machine. With fine-tuned suspension, a unique application of the stability control system, rigid suspension mounting, and lightweight performance suspension arms, the return of the Supra promises a powerful machine built with drivers in mind. Hefty Brembo® brakes ensure the impeccable braking performance you need for a sports car of this caliber and 19-inch alloy wheels feature a staggered setup for enhanced grip.
More than Just a Sports Car
Visually, the 2020 Supra harkens back to the fourth generation Supra and the 1967 Toyota 2000 GT, but beneath the sculpted panels, the Supra is a purely modern sports car. Technology features like dual-zone climate control, keyless entry, rear camera, rain sensing windshield wipers, and power folding mirrors add the convenience of a modern car. Safety was also kept in mind with key Toyota features like Forward Collision Warning, Lane Departure Warning, and Road Sign Assist, all of which come standard. Additional features are available to further increase your safety on the road. For multimedia, a 6.5-inch display is standard, along with Bluetooth® and iPod compatibility. Opt for the 3.0 Premium grade to enjoy an 8.8-inch touchscreen with navigation, a 12-speaker JBL audio system, and wireless smartphone charging.
This may be one of the most anticipated model releases, and Toyota did not disappoint. The automaker has resurrected the legendary Supra and updated it to fit the needs of the modern driver. You can expect to see the Launch Edition of the fifth-generation Supra hit dealerships later this year. For more information on availability, please contact Ardmore Toyota today.
